We’ve all welcomed the recent rain that Cape Town has experienced with a collective sigh of relief. As of 4 September 2018, overall dam levels are sitting at 66.3%, with our largest dam Theewaterskloof at 49.0% capacity. Glenn Moncrieff (@Glennwithtwons) posted an interesting tweet this week with some incredible satellite images courtesy of Planet Labs, Inc showing the Theewaterskloof dam levels from 1 March 2018 to the end of August 2018. The progress can be seen in the timelapse imagery below.

Planet Labs, Inc. is USA based company specialising in Earth imaging. Founded in 2010 by three NASA scientists, the company uses miniature satellites called “Doves” which are equipped with high-powered telescopes that capture images of the Earth daily. The images can be accessed online and are used in anything from climate monitoring and crop yield prediction, to urban planning, disaster response and more. For more information visit https://www.planet.com.

Let’s hope September gives us some more beautiful rain!
